Create an Ego-Free Zone
Embrace reality as your ally, and you’ll find a drama-free path.
We all have an ego but it doesn't always act like a friend. My ego has been acting up for the last few weeks. At work, I found myself venting to co-workers. In my spare time, I was creating drama for no reason. It was time for self-reflection.
Your ego's worst enemy is accountability
So, last weekend, I sat in my home office and attempted to stop believing everything I was thinking.
- My employer wasn't trying to curb my creativity
- My tennis game was not plateauing
- [insert other brain fabrications]
By sitting quietly and listening to my internal dialogue, I was able to question whether these thoughts were true, and I was able to recognize that my ego was filling my mind with unnecessary drama. Turns out I am a natural at creating [internal] drama. Maybe you are too?
All opinions are not of equal value
After my reflection, I was looking for a way to stop, change my thought patterns and get back to being engaged, committed to people's success and live a more productive life.
I dug deep and asked myself a few questions I ask my coaching clients.
- What part of my reality am I struggling with, and
- What different choices would lead me to better outcomes?
I did come up with a few ideas I am trying to implement right now. At the very least, answering my own questions interrupted thinking loops that my ego was feeding me on repeat 😃.
In Conclusion - Cut The Drama
Recognizing and addressing the influence of our ego is a crucial step towards personal and professional well-being. By holding ourselves accountable and questioning the validity of our thoughts, we can dismantle the unnecessary drama our ego creates.
Ask yourself: what part of your reality are you struggling with, and what different decisions could lead to more positive outcomes?
Your ego is the voice you hear in your head all the time, and it's not always right... in fact, it's not often right!
