When you have a clear vision of where you want to be, you're more likely to take action to make it happen.

If you could fast-forward 12 months from now, what do you hope to be celebrating? Success in your work or personal life? Achieving a major goal? Getting in better shape or improving your health?

Envisioning the future is a powerful motivator

Do I even know what I want to be celebrating in 12 months?

As we were flying from Kuala Lumpur back to Saskatchewan, I reflected on where I wanted to be 12 months from today. I didn't have a clear picture of that, and so I started to brainstorm while watching a TV show I was recommended. Here's what I came up with.

  1. Setting goals and having a vision for the future is essential to personal and professional growth. When you have a clear vision of where you want to be, you're more likely to take action to make it happen.
  2. When you set goals, you're taking control of your life, and reducing the risk of drifting aimlessly. It also gives you a sense of purpose and direction, which can help boost your confidence and motivation.
  3. Achieving goals can be challenging, and it's easy to lose motivation along the way. To stay motivated, remind yourself of why you set the goal in the first place. Connect with your "why" and visualize the end result.
  4. Celebrate your small wins along the way, and give yourself some positive feedback. Find a supportive community or an accountability partner who can cheer you on and hold you accountable.
  5. Goals are not set in stone, and it's okay to adjust your course along the way. Don't beat yourself up if you fall short of your goals – use it as an opportunity to learn and grow. Be flexible and open-minded, and adjust your goals if your priorities change or your circumstances shift.

Conclusion: I still don't know... yet!

Wow, after a crazy 34-hour journey, we finally made it home from Malaysia! Can you believe it? And you know what, I still haven't figured out what I want to celebrate in a year. But hey, at least I've gained some awesome insights that will help me as I work my way towards my goals. The best part? The brainstorming sesh helped me take control of my thoughts and actually focus on taking action. So maybe, just maybe, this article can be the kickstart you need too.
